The Willett story
From the Yorkshire Amateur to the Green Jacket.
Danny Willett joined Rotherham as a teenager in 2005. Within two years he was Club Champion at Rotherham, Yorkshire Amateur Champion, and English Amateur Champion. He made the 2007 Walker Cup squad at Royal County Down. He became World No. 1 amateur.
On Sunday 10 April 2016 he won the Masters at Augusta National. The first English Masters champion since Nick Faldo. The first major won by an Englishman in twenty years.
The club has been quietly proud of its part in that career for the decade since. Willett returns between Tour commitments. The Walker Cup bag he carried in 2007 is on display in the clubhouse. He held the 2016 homecoming press conference at Rotherham wearing the Green Jacket.
